Hana graduated from Swarthmore College where her passion for birth, women’s health, and social justice blossomed. There she received her birth doula training and certification through DONA International. A few months later, she completed her postpartum doula training with the same organization. Currently, she teaches childbirth education at Lifecycle WomanCare, formerly The Birth Center (TBC), in Bryn Mawr. She was also trained and mentored by one of TBC’s nurses in the process of placenta encapsulation in order to offer the service to her clients and is co-owner of Philadelphia Placenta Company. Later, introduced by one of her housemates, she became an essential oil distributor because of their benefits for her moms and babies. Additionally, she is a certified yoga instructor through Maha Yoga in Center City Philadelphia and Holy Yoga, an internationally renowned program, and is currently working on a yoga masters program.
She believes that all parenting people - regardless of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, religion, body type, age, etc. - deserve a joyful, supported, non judgemental, and empowering birth. Therefore, she seeks to encourage and nurture mothers and partners as they prepare and labor in their own unique way. For her, pregnancy is not an illness, but a sign of fruitful health; not an emergency, but an emergence of new life and relationship. She continues to be awestruck by women’s strength in birth and feels blessed and energized by the opportunity to serve and share in their birth stories.
Originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota, Hana now lives in Philadelphia, PA with her husband, Wes. When she can, she volunteers her time with the Philadelphia Alliance for Labor Support (PALS). In her spare time, she finds joy in dancing, photographing family and friends, playing her cello, cooking, and adventuring.
Hana is currently taking a hiatus from attending as a doula but provides back-up doula coverage.
